Today I'm chatting about the 9 main rivers in Europe that river cruise sail on. Be sure to watch my weekly update here, and read the blog below:
Danube
This includes the Upper and Lower Danube from Germany to Romania. The Upper Danube is often one of the first river cruises.
2. Rhine
The Rhine is also one of the rivers that is often booked for first time river cruises and it's easy to see why. Spanning Switzerland to the Netherlands - it's a beautiful river.
3. Seine
The Seine is a great option if you want to focus on France and Paris, and want to include Normandy.
4. Rhone
A gorgeous river cruise that focuses on wine, history, and southern France - it's really underrated in the River Cruise market and highly recommended.
5. Main
This river feeds into the Rhine, and connects to the Danube through the Main/Danube Canal.
6. Moselle
This picture perfect river is another river that feeds into the Rhine, and is often paired up with a Rhine river cruise.
7. Canals and Rivers of the Netherlands and Belgium
This is an area that is often thought of for a springtime river cruise for Tulip Time, but it is lovely any time of the year.
8. Bordeaux
Wine, wine, wine, and more wine. Especially beloved for those who love red wine. This river focuses on vineyards, culture, wine, and food.
9. Douro
A fantastic way to see Portugal and get a totally different perspective on this fascinating country.
These are the top 9 rivers. There are a few other honorible mentions such as the Elbe, though it is more suited to canal cruising, and the Volga in Russia, which needless to say isn't being offered as an option at this point in time......
There are many other rivers in Europe that are serviced by barges instead of river cruise ships - but that is a different style of sailing than the River Cruise ships we are highlighting here.
