AMAWaterways Ship Tour from My Christmas River Cruise

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like on board an AmaWaterways river cruise ship, you’re in the right place.

In this past November, I had the chance to sail aboard the AmaCerto during one of their enchanting Christmas market cruises — and let me tell you, this ship was just as magical as the destinations we visited.

I filmed a full video tour of the ship, sharing everything from my stateroom to the public areas, festive decorations, and even the sun deck views from our sunny day in Basel. You can watch the full video below:

What to Expect Onboard the AmaCerto

The AmaCerto is one of AmaWaterways’ classic river ships, holding up to 162 passengers. While she was originally built in 2012, you’d never know it — she’s extremely well maintained, with cozy common areas, elegant decor, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

During the holiday season, the ship is beautifully decorated with Christmas trees, garlands, twinkle lights, and festive touches that make it feel like a floating boutique hotel.

Highlights from My Tour

My Stateroom – Category BA on the Violin Deck

I give you a full walkthrough of my cabin, which featured twin balconies (French and full), a spacious bathroom, and plenty of thoughtful touches. This room was cozy, quiet, and perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring Christmas markets.

The Lounge & Coffee Station

I made a daily pilgrimage to the specialty coffee machine — and it was worth it every time. The lounge also includes a bar, dance floor, comfy seating, and even a small library with games and books for cozy afternoons onboard.

The Chef’s Table

Every guest is invited to this specialty restaurant at least once during their sailing. The food and presentation were top-notch, and the setting is perfect for a special evening. I do think it would be lovely if Ama made the space feel more inviting during the mornings — it has so much potential for a quiet coffee spot.

The Sun Deck

Even in November, we had one beautiful sunny day where guests relaxed outside on loungers. The heated pool (which I personally made good use of) felt more like a hot tub — perfect for watching the riverbanks drift by.

Other Spaces

From the festive lobby to the onboard shop, reception area, and staircases connecting the decks, I give you a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to actually move around the ship. I also share dining room footage from a tour of the AmaMora in 2023 — the layout is nearly identical.
